Trend Analysis for the Dax (DAX)

Current Market Regime for the Dax (DAX)

Market regimes are a predefined classification of trends based on their direction and strength

Positive Short-Term Market Health & Positive Mid-Term Market Health >>> Very High Reward

Characteristics

Robust uptrend. Highly positive market regime accompanied by significantly low volatility. Prices consistently show an upward trend, supported by a wide range of well-performing stocks within that market. Even in the face of negative news, the market demonstrates remarkable resilience with such a high positive trend quality. Weak trading days are typically short-lived overbought or sentiment driven reactions, leaving the market better positioned for further gains. Please note that the Market Regime Gauge provides only a snapshot of current indicator signals and does not account for foreseeable signal shifts, divergences, or weak signal strength. For a more detailed view, we recommend monitoring our Short- to Long-Term Market Health Indicators and/or single indicator devlopments.

Behind Market Regimes:

Market regimes are a predefined classification of trends based on their direction and strength.

Our definition of market regimes is rooted in an extensive analysis and combination of multiple indicators across various categories (trend, trend quality, and sentiment, including dumb- and smart-money positioning) and timeframes.

In total, we have six predefined regimes ranging from ‘Very High Reward’ to ‘Very High Risk,’ each with its own distinct risk-reward characteristics

A written assessment of relevant market indicators used to identify the Short- and Long-Term Market Regime of the S&P 500

Current Conditions Signal Vulnerability Amid Negative Trends

In the past week, the Dax market experienced a 3.1% increase. Over the last month, it declined by 8.4%. Looking back over three months, the market showed a 1.4% increase. In the past year, the Dax market saw a 19.3% rise.

Short-Term Market Health

The short-term trend of the Dax market is decisively negative, with it closing below the lower envelope line of the Trend Trader Index. This downward movement is reinforced by both envelope lines declining, signaling lower highs and lower lows over a rolling 20-day period— a typical pattern of a pronounced negative price trend. Additionally, this bearish trend is supported by strong momentum indicators, including the Modified MACD and the Advance/Decline 20-Day Momentum Indicator. As a result, the current negative price trend in the Dax market appears to be quite strong in nature.

The situation looks different when analyzing the underlying trend quality. There, we can see that the upside participation rate within the broad market looks quite healthy at the moment. Thus, most of the downtrend is being driven by a few heavily weighted stocks, rather than being the result of broad-based weakness. The Modified McClellan Oscillator Daily shows advancing stocks’ momentum surpassing declining ones. Similarly, the Modified McClellan Volume Oscillator Daily indicates advancing volume momentum exceeding declining volume. The Upside-/Downside Volume Index Daily reflects positive volume flows into equities. New Highs minus New Lows reveals more stocks hitting new yearly highs than dropping to new yearly lows. The High-/Low Index Daily’s 5-day moving averages favor new highs over new lows. Stocks trading below the SMA 20 signal a negative price trend over 20 days, while those below the SMA 50 indicate a negative trend over 50 days in the Dax market. So even if we experience further selling pressure, the Dax’s downside potential appears quite capped at the moment, given the quite solid trend quality signals all across the board.

On the contrarian side, we can see that the more…
